These Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they moist and chewy for times, but they are unmistakably banana-y.

Banana can be one of those flavors that can get lost once you inhale with it. It can be quite delicate flavor. It always bums me out if that happens, cause I really like the taste of banana. And so does the hubs.

When good flavored banana treats come together, we go a little mad for them.

These biscuits make the listing of banana things to go crazy for. With no doubt.

And they are so moistthey practically melt in your mouth. In addition, with both banana and oats in them, they are basically healthy, right? And perfect for breakfast!

Creating them is just as easy as eating them.

You start with mixing all those lovely ingredients together.

I must warn you. The odor of that mixture -- with the banana -- is equally intoxicating. The hubs was in the kitchen making the dough with me (we left a bargain that included him baking with me) and we both had to work hard to not place our faces, or even a straw, right in to it.

You then add all the ingredients (which means you only use one bowl -- yay!) And combine it all together!

To bake them, spoon about a tablespoon of bread and make a thick disk, as opposed to a chunk. They spread a bit after baking, and therefore don't put them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes to get a fine, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

1 additional thing I really like about this recipe is where it came out.

My grandma (my father's mother ) passed out in 2008. Once I started draining a lot a few years ago, my uncle gave me cookbook that he'd had didn't use. I've had it on my list to produce several her desserts ever since.

It was a convention for my grandma to make them every Christmas! She gave everyone a huge tin of these, which was really a feat with 6 sons.

I now know precisely how much of an effort it had been! My goodness. She made them using a conventional gaufrette iron that goes over a open fire. My dad and I had them around the stove. They cook very fast and you have to be exact. Too long and they kind of disintegrated to iron. As long and they burned into the iron and we all had to wash it out.

My dad was minding the batter and taking away the biscuits, I had been working the ironthe hubs was timing things. It took quite a few attempts to get it , but they had been so excellent! I have tried to make them on my own and it works. I would really like to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are all so hard to discover. And expensive. At some point, I'd like to just earn a cookie with the exact same gaufrette flavor.

For today though, I'm sharing these biscuits. I don't think I had them when she made thembut they are from her book.

It's such an enjoyable recipe book to look through, also. There are many handwritten pages, clippings and newspaper recipes that were taped into the publication. I love the way they used to compose recipes from the paper -- they'd the person who submitted it's title and adorable little tales. It's so fun to browse ! What another time on earth!

Anyways, I do not really know where this pop over here recipe came out. The paper appears like it was on a flier from their square dance band or something (they have been big to square dance ). It's definitely from West Virginia, in which they dwelt.

In any event, I'm so glad to finally share a recipe from her novel with you! I made a few adjustments to make them thicker and more puffier and they are delicious. There'll be more to come from her recipe book, but for now like the banana.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies

Return: 34-36 COOKIES


1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 tsp ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch

3 cups old fashioned oats



2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and blend until blended.

3. Stir in vanilla.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

5. Spoon tablespoons of dough onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Flatten dough just a little bitinto thick disks. They'll spread a bit when baked.

6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges just start to gold.
